El Fogon – by Ray Cirino
fogon3

fogon2The history of El Fogon goes back to Brasil when the Spanish took the cooker out of the ships galley. It allowed the cooking space to be above ground level instead in a fire pit. They added adobe and what ever they could find to channel the fire under a pot and in some cases into an oven and exhausted out of just the area around the pots. After twelve years of building rocket stoves and ovens I used my experience to refine the fogon to be more efficient and take less time to heat up to create an ideal backyard cooker. It also has a surface on the backside that works as a bar for entertaining guests. It also has little if any smoke as it burns cleaner than most wood fired BBQ’s.
